The G3 Ion 12's strengths lie in the realm of touring performance and reliability; as such, it's a good choice when most of your skiing is done outside the bounds of a resort - even deep in the backcountry. Weight and downhill performance are fairly typical for a tech binding, however, it was unanimously deemed easiest to step into by our testers, who also appreciated how easy it was to clean ice from the toe piece.
